SASA/NRF Academic Statistics Funding

The NRF has again awarded funding for 2016 to assist in resolving the crisis in Academic Statistics in higher education. Calls were recently sent to all HoDs and Chairpersons of Statistics Departments in South Africa. The second cohort of masters- and PhD-bursaries as well as post-doctoral fellowships for 2016, were identified through an assessment process. The application process for these funding opportunities has been closed and further initiatives of funding will be communicated to all HoDs and chairpersons in the near future.

Support and funding in the areas presented below will continue beyond 2016 in order to achieve the long term goal of producing young academic statisticians capable of training generations to come. All Heads of Departments have a copy of the 2016 funding document and updated initiatives will be communicated to them. This document explains all the different options, amounts and limits. Due dates of all submissions and applications are determined using the NRF guidelines.
